How to Use Books and Dramatic Play to Turn “Ordinary” Playtime into “Extraordinary” Playtime

Join us at this hands-on, interactive session and learn what it takes to turn “ordinary story times and pretend play” into opportunities that promote brain development, stimulates language development and promotes literacy.  You will learn: 1) what is going on in the brain as children learn to read, 2) how to use dialogic reading to  turn story time into conversation time, 3) ideas for using books and other props to enhance dramatic play, and more. Plus, learn tips for improving your ECERS score on items #15, #16, #28, and #32.

School-age Environments and Activities

In this fun, interactive workshop we will talk about what a quality school-age environment should look like. We’ll have examples of inexpensive and “easy to make” activities school-agers love and examples of games that require very few or no supplies to play. Participants will have a chance to “re-design” your school-age environment and get to be a kid again, trying out some of the activities. Please bring a ruler.
